What is cinechat?

cinechat is an interactive feature that you can launch from your cinechat-enabled Blu-ray disc in a web-enabled Blu-ray player. It allows you to chat with friends while watching your favorite movies using an on-screen keyboard or the keyboard of an external device like a computer, laptop, iPhone or BlackBerry. from your laptop, computer, or smartphone and use the cinechat text entry website to type your messages and chat with your friends. All participants of the chat must be using cinechat from their web-enabled Blu-ray players and cinechat-enabled Blu-ray discs. Because you are chatting over an Internet connection, the participants of the chat can be anywhere in the world!

How do I register for a BD-Live Username?

There are three ways to register. Put your cinechat enabled Blu-ray disc in your web-enabled Blu-ray player. Select Special Features from the Main Menu and then select Launch cinechat. Choose the Register button on the Main Menu of cinechat and create a BD-Live Username and Password. Go back to the Main Menu of cinechat and login with your new Username and Password. Now you can invite your friends to chat!

You can also launch BD-Live from your Blu-ray disc Main Menu. Select My Profile from the BD-Live portal and enter your information to create a BD-Live Username and Password. Once you've created your Username and Password, select Special Features from your cinechat-enabled Blu-ray disc's Main Menu and select Launch cinechat. Login with your new Username and Password and invite your friends to chat!

Select Sign Up for a BD-Live Account and enter your information. Once you've created your Username and Password, select Special Features from your cinechat-enabled Blu-ray disc Main Menu and then select Launch cinechat. Login with your new Username and Password and invite your friends to chat!

If you already have a Sony Rewards Username and Password, you can use that to login to cinechat.

How do I launch cinechat?

Put your cinechat-enabled Blu-ray disc in your web-enabled Blu-ray player and from the Main Menu select Special Features. Now select Launch cinechat and login with your BD-Live Username and Password. Now you can invite your friends to chat with you while watching your favorite movie together!

How do I invite a buddy to join my cinechat Buddy List?

First, login to cinechat using your BD-Live Username and Password and then select Manage Buddy List. Now, type your buddy's BD-Live username or valid email address within the Add Buddy field. Once you have typed in your friend's Username or email address, select the Add button and their name will be added to your Buddy List window. An invitation will be sent to your friend asking them if they would like to join your Buddy List. You will be able to invite them to chat with you once they have accepted your invitation to join your Buddy List. Remember that your buddies need to have an Internet-enabled Blu-ray player and a cinechat enabled Sony Pictures Blu-ray disc in order to be a participant.

Why are there no buddies in my cinechat Buddy List?

You need to get permission from your friends in order to add them to your Buddy List. After you've invited your friend to chat using the Manage Buddy List feature of cinechat, an invitation will be sent to your friend asking them if they would like to join your Buddy List. Once they accept, they will appear on your Buddy List.

I have started a chat, why are there no buddies in my chat window?

You can join the chat and start the movie before your friends have joined the chat. You also have the option to select the Wait button and your movie will pause while you are waiting for your friends to join. You will be able to see messages come up on the screen while you are waiting for your buddies. Once you are ready to start the movie, press the Play button on your remote. When the Host enters the chat you have the option to sync your movie to your Host by pressing the Re-sync button in the pop-up screen. Now you will be synched with your host.

Remember that your buddies need to have an Internet-enabled Blu-ray player and a cinechat-enabled Sony Pictures Blu-ray disc in order to be a participant.

From your computer or laptop, double-click the URL in the email you have received to launch the cinechat website login page. Login to cinechat using your BD-Live Username and Password.

How can I move the chat window to another position?

You can press the button in the upper right-hand corner of the chat window in order to move it to different areas of the screen. Continue pressing the button until you have positioned the chat window to your preferred position for chatting and watching your movie.

Can I use the color keys on my remote for faster navigation?

Yes! Your color keys are mapped to the following standard keyboard buttons:
  • Green: Toggle between lower case and upper case
  • Red: Delete
  • Yellow: Space Bar
  • Blue: Enter

I pressed the skip button while watching the movie. Is there a way to re-synchronize
to the Host?

If you have gotten out of sync with your Host, you can press the Re-Sync button in the lower left-hand corner of the chat window. You will now be in sync with your Host. At any point within the movie you can press the Re-Sync button to sync with your Host.

When pressing the Launch cinechat button in the Main Menu I get a popup
telling me that my player is not connected to the Internet.

Please connect your player to the Internet. You can consult the instruction manual of your Blu-ray player for details about how to do this. If you have a profile 1.0 or 1.1 player, you will not be able to connect your player to the Internet or participate in cinechat.

If your player is connected to the Internet, please contact the manufacturer to find out whether there are firmware updates available for your player. You can check this website where you will find a list of supported players and detailed information about BD-Live/Profile 2.0 support.
